If you are looking for ways to improve your morning routine and feel happier, this post might be for you!
I am a believer in the power of morning routines because how you start your day can have a massive influence on how the rest of your day unfolds.
I have 7 tips for you but, this is not a quick fix or any kind of miracle recipe, it’s about creating a foundation for happiness that can last all day long
- Start your day with gratitude
Gratitude is a whole mindset, a way of seeing the world focusing on the positive.
When we wake up, we are already thinking about all the duties and expectations we have about the day ahead but, instead of letting stress and worry dominate your thoughts, try to start the day with gratitude.
Appreciate the small things, pay extra attention to them and appreciate every single step of your morning– a warm cup of coffee or tea, comfy slippers, a beautiful sunrise outside your window, a yummy breakfast.
Gratitude will set a positive tone for the rest of your day.
- 2. Disconnect from technology
Instead of reaching for your phone as soon as you open your eyes, try to spend at least 45 minutes tech-free.
Instead of getting lost on tons of emails, social media updates or news headlines, take your time to focus on yourself, to enjoy the small things, to start the day with intention.
Mentally this not only improves your day, calming your nervous system reducing stress and anxiety but, also helps you with a more mindful start of the day, free from distraction and interruptions.
- 3. Engage in mindfulness meditation
Dedicating 10 minutes in the morning (yes 10 minutes only) can already have a huge impact on your day.
If you don’t know how to start your meditation practice, I have a Post dedicated to it “How to start your journey into meditation”. You can have access to it clicking here.
It’s not always easy, some days are harder than others, but the key is always: consistency.

- 4. Get moving with some morning Yoga
I have mentioned several times on my posts how beneficial can be practicing Yoga, not only physically but also mentally.
You don’t have to spend one hour or two doing the most advanced positions, some simple asanas with a nice breathwork can do wonders to get your day started on the right foot.
Regular exercise can be as just effective as antidepressants in treating mild to moderate depression, as recent studies have shown.

- 5. Fuel your body with nutritious food
Starting your day with a balanced diet, can provide the right energy you need to tackle the day ahead. Opt for food reach in fibers, protein and healthy fats, try always to include fruits and vegetables. It will help you to boost your mood and keep you feeling satisfied and energized, besides being extremely healthy.
- 6. Embrace a bit of discomfort
I am not suggesting forcing yourself into a big challenge like hiking the highest mountain or stepping on fire, I mean to challenge yourself in small ways.
It is called: “optimal discomfort” and it is the idea that small challenges is necessary for personal development. By pushing our boundaries, we can learn more about ourselves and our resilience.
Try to wake up 30 minutes earlier, chose to take a walk outside even if it is cold, instead to train inside, read a book instead to use your phone…there are many ways you can add a small “discomfort” in the morning that, it might just be the key to your happiness.
- 7. Create a morning routine
Instead to rushing around in a reactive state, a morning routine can help you to start your day with intention. It gives you the chance to prioritize self-care and stay positive for the rest of your day.
Having a routine can help you feel less stressed and gives a feeling of control and well-being.
It could involve simple activities like the one I above mentioned or, you can add or opt for something different like journaling, reading, singing!
Your journey toward happiness is very personal and unique. It is discovering what’s best for you and making conscious decisions each day to prioritize your well-being.
These 7 steps can really be a game-changer but, feel free to add or change any of them with something that really let you feel grounded, happier and healthier, possibly in the most mindful way and remember, consistency is always the key.
